IPMA: Managing Up

February 5, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 10:30 am

Effective Communication – Managing Up!

Effective communication in the workplace can be one of our biggest challenges. Communication can be even more tricky when it comes to our manager or boss. Mastering the skill of managing up is exactly what must be done to excel in any organization, even if it seems unnatural to manage those above you in the top-down world of business.

In the world of work, there will always be “a boss.” Someone will always be above you; someone you need to go to for resources. They may be your manager in the hierarchy of your organization, an outside customer, or even a Board. They can help you succeed, or they can stand in the way of your success.

During this session we will touch on five tips to help you build and maintain the crucial employee-manager relationship, which can open the door to achievement, accomplishment, and personal success in your workplace.

About the Presenter:

Abigail (Abby) Hoeh has provided coaching and organizational development services for local, county, and state departments of various sizes as well as for military and federal government entities for over 8 years. She is an active member in the IPMA-HR Colorado Chapter, and serves as Secretary to the Board. Abby currently works in training and organizational development for Jefferson County Government as well as owns her own coaching and organizational consulting business, Life Work Balance LLC.

She enjoys working with individuals and organizations to obtain and use the tools they need to improve their professional, relational, and organizational performance. Abby has her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a specialization in Career Counseling from Regis University and also holds bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado Boulder.

When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets (if you ask, she will show you pictures of her dog, cat, ducks, and poison dart frogs!), traveling, playing board games, cheering on the Denver Broncos, hiking, and writing.
